Modular Frame Tactics - Weapon Showcase - The Knife

Another promo render for Modular Frame Tactics, this time using the low-poly game models themselves, but using the more powerful glass shader to create the refractive surfaces. I've also switched to a simpler grid as a backdrop for the weapons, which should help put them into perspective as far as their scale to one another.

Black Lace Bullet - Title
by ianchase on Jan.28, 2010, under Art, Game Design, Black Lace Bullet, Graphics
Black Lace Bullet is side project of mine that explores one of my favorite game genres, top-down shooters. Top-down shooters are more commonly known as "shmups" (short for "shoot-'em ups") and are distinguished from the more popular "FPS/first-person-shooter" and "TPS/third-person-shooter" genres by it's overhead perspective and focus on having the player navigate through waves of enemies and traps in a largely two dimensional playing field. Shmups are further divided into two subcategories, the elder being often known as "traditional" and a newer variant known as 弾幕 (danmaku, literally translated as "barrage"), or "bullet hell" style. Black Lace Bullet leans towards the newer, “bullet hell” style of gameplay, but also incorporates some elements of physics simulation similar to what you might expect to see in a billiards game.

One line synopsis: A gun-toting magical saloon-girl has to send interdimensional slime monsters back where they came from while dancing through a deadly storm of magical attacks.
